Date: 2000 08 25 We got a note about the Hauch Fonts. For the time being they are not downloadable as we explore the issues with our next-ftp community. John Sechrest sechrest@peak.org ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 25 Aug 2000 12:58:16 +0200 From: Ugla Marekowa To: hostmaster@peak.org Subject: copyright infringement Dear Webmaster, we sent you the mail below on August 9th, 2000. But you have not yet removed the infringing software. Please do so by Monday, 28th August 2000. If you do not remove the software, we have no choice but to hand the matter over to our lawyers and look to recover damages from you. I am still hoping this will not be necessary: I am writing to you from FontShop International, a typefoundry in Berlin, Germany. It has been brought to our attention that you are distributing at least one of our commercial products for free on your website, under http://www.peak.org/next/fonts/h/00_index.html. It seems that a pirate designer has re-digitized a typeface of ours called FF Scala, and renamed it as "Hanch". We have downloaded the pirate copies and analyzed the data, and can prove that they are a poorly disguised copies of our original font, although the pirate designer claims that it is his design, and that the font is freeware. Since you were probably not aware of the copyright infringement, we request that you simply remove the following "Hanch" files from your website immediately: Hanch-Bold.font.tar.gz Hanch-BoldItalic.font.tar.gz Hanch-Italic.font.tar.gz Hanch.font.tar.gz It is imperative that you act quickly, since pirated fonts obviously cause tremendous financial damage to our company as well as to the original font designer. Thanks for your cooperation. Best Regards, Ugla Marekowa FSI FontShop International Bergmannstr. 102 D-10961 Berlin Tel. +49 (30) 693 70 22 Fax +49 (30) 692 84 43
